Pine Knot Busted Arrest Path
Pine Knot is unincorporated, a census-designated place in the hills of McCreary County. The official 2020 Census CDP table counts 1,380 residents, and Kentucky's city-status lists confirm the county has no incorporated municipalities at all. So there is no town police force, no city jail, and no municipal booking log to search. When a record carries the label "Pine Knot," it points to a home address or an incident spot. It never names an arresting agency.
That job belongs to the McCreary County Sheriff's Office, the countywide starting point for local records. Kentucky State Police can show up on state cases or multi-agency operations. Under the current contract, county inmates usually land at Knox County Detention Center in Barbourville. That split matters for searchers. The arrest report and the jail record may sit with two different custodians.
Why Pine Knot Busted Records Cross Counties
McCreary County stopped running its own jail in 2013. The old one shut down that year. Inmates now go to Knox County Detention Center under contract. A planned Whitley County expansion waits in the wings. Where a person lands can shift because of space, transfers, releases, or a court order. Older reports may list other facilities. Keep their original dates attached.
For live custody status, start with the official Knox inmate-list entry point. It feeds into JailTracker. Think of it as the contracted facility's roster rather than a McCreary jail roster. The system supports a current search plus views for people released in the last 7 or 30 days. Those windows show releases, not full arrest logs. And a Knox listing alone doesn't tell you the arrest happened in McCreary County.
| Record state | Best first source | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| In custody now | Knox JailTracker | Facility can hold people from other agencies |
| Released recently | Knox 7-day or 30-day view | Shows releases, not all new arrests |
| Arrest report | McCreary Sheriff | Written request may be needed |
| Court outcome | CourtNet or Circuit Clerk | Guest access can omit disposed cases |
| State sentence | KY DOC KOOL | Not a county booking feed |
Where Pine Knot Mugshots Appear
Go to official sources before news sites or private databases. Pine Knot has no town blotter. There is no same-day photo page. No municipal feed of any kind exists. The Sheriff's site lists the contact route for arrest records but posts no live roster. Knox sometimes attaches an image to a facility detail record. Its search tool doesn't promise a photo for every person booked.
| Channel | Photo status | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| McCreary Sheriff | No public gallery or feed | Ask for the specific arrest-side record |
| Knox JailTracker | Possible detail image | Confirm agency, date, facility, and custody state |
| KY DOC KOOL | Photo indicator may appear | Use for DOC-recorded custody or supervision |
| McCreary Journal | Text-first, generic art possible | Use dates and names as leads |
| Private historical indexes | Old profiles may contain images | Unofficial and potentially stale; verify elsewhere |
Private sites tell a different story. Mugshots.com keeps an unofficial historical McCreary section with older entries tagged Pine Knot. Arrests.org may surface aged records too. RecentlyBooked, BustedNewspaper.com, and Mugshots.zone show no verified McCreary section. An agency record still beats all of them. A stale private profile says nothing about who is in custody right now.
Find Who Was Busted in Pine Knot
Start with custody status, not a broad image hunt. Working from current detention first cuts down false matches and keeps old reports from blurring into the present.
- Search the official Knox client by the person’s name. Check current custody first, then the two clearly labeled release windows.
- Match the booking or release date, jacket or booking number, facility, and arresting agency. Do not infer McCreary from the jail alone.
- Check the Sheriff’s contact route when Knox shows no result or when an arrest report or photo is the actual record needed.
- Use CourtNet, then the McCreary Circuit Clerk, to find the case outcome. A missing guest result is not proof that no case exists.
- Use KOOL only for a state/DOC custody question and the BOP locator only when federal custody is independently indicated.
For the full county roster and how the booking window works, see the McCreary County busted mugshots home page. Come up empty on a name? That happens for several reasons. The person may have been released, transferred, or held by another agency. A spelling difference, a protected record, or a short processing delay can also hide a result.
Pine Knot Arrest Record Requests
Pine Knot has no city records office of its own. The arrest-side file has to come from the county. Write a specific Kentucky Open Records Act request to the McCreary County Sheriff. Include the full name, the approximate date, and the Pine Knot connection. Add the arresting agency if you know it. Name the exact item you want, whether that is an arrest citation, a booking record, a photograph, or release information. The Sheriff offers no dedicated booking-photo form, no fee schedule, and no promised turnaround time.
The legal route runs through KRS 61.872. Under KRS 61.880, the agency generally must issue a written decision within five days, weekends and legal holidays excluded. Delays can be lawful if explained. Exemptions can be cited too. Kentucky does allow charging actual reproduction costs, so never assume a photo comes free. One wrinkle remains: if the facility image belongs to Knox, the Sheriff will likely send you there for that piece.

Pine Knot Federal Custody Difference
USP McCreary sits at 330 Federal Way in Pine Knot, but do not confuse it with the county booking desk. It is a federal prison. The difference matters more here than almost anywhere. A local arrest does not turn federal just because it happened near the institution, and the word McCreary in a federal result does not make it a county mugshot.
The official USP McCreary page names the institution and lists 606-354-7000 as its phone number. The image below simply documents that federal source. It shows no one's photograph.

Confirm the facility on the institution page first. A named custody search then belongs in the federal locator.
The Bureau of Prisons inmate locator covers federal inmates back to 1982, within its stated limits. It posts no public mugshot photos. The captured search form below shows the right federal lookup channel.

A federal locator hit tells you where someone is held. It does not prove a Pine Knot booking. Federal pretrial cases often spread across partner facilities too. So track down the case source before drawing any conclusions.
Pine Knot Busted News Limits
For steady local coverage, the McCreary Journal Sheriff's Report leads the pack. Each report usually spans a stretch of days. Names, deputies, arrests, citations, warrants, and charges all show up in its pages. Coverage runs countywide. It often lands after the fact. A Pine Knot mention helps place an event, but the town has no blotter of its own. Stock arrest artwork is never the same thing as a real booking photo.
The McCreary County Voice and regional outlets round out the picture. Old newspaper archives work well for digging up past names and dates. Keep the event date separate from the publication date. Then confirm the record with the Sheriff, Knox, or the court. The county's Crime News & Mugshots page splits weekly reports from court and regional coverage.
Read Pine Knot Busted Status Carefully
Booking, custody, release, and disposition answer four different questions. One person can be arrested in McCreary and housed in Knox. He may be released before anyone searches. He may then show up only in a court file. Kentucky Department of Corrections inmates may surface in KOOL, which the state refreshes four times a day. Still, KOOL is no complete list of fresh Pine Knot arrests.
- Booking
- The intake process that creates a facility record after arrest.
- Release
- The end of that facility stay, not the end of the court case.
- Disposition
- The court’s recorded outcome, such as dismissal, plea, or judgment.
- Transfer
- A move to another custodian that can make the first roster look stale.
Note: Record the access date and the source every time you check a listing. A page vanishing from a portal does not mean the public record was destroyed. By the same token, an old page proves nothing about custody today.
